PERSONAL PEDESTAL WORK
In life, love and struggle we all share similar states but to each of us the form is unique.
My current interest in making sculpture for the pedestal is in the combination of materials. Stone and fabric represent hard and soft. They are the materials I am most comfortable with. Fiber was my reassuring introduction to art and is a lifelong steady. Stone is my professional and primary medium. I enjoy exploring how they speak to each other in varying compositions. I am interested in the ways each material can take on the role of the other and in strengthening this conceptual paradox. I have been creating work over the course of my career influenced by the body and natural form. This has always been a raw and variant experience for me. The torsos and breasts are representative of individuals. In life, love and struggle we all share similar states but to each of us the form is unique. I am engaging a feminist approach in context to work, familial roles and societal expectations of women.
