GARGOYLES | Emma Willard School | Troy, NY
The Emma Willard School is a campus filled with gothic architecture and gargoyles staring down at students from every building. For decades, two empty blocks remained in the entry archway. This is an important feature on campus and the gargoyle-free spots were glaring! As a stone carver and an alumna of the school, I was honored to be asked to help complete the series in 2016. The final gargoyles depict the Jester, the school’s mascot, which is taken from a Christmas play performed every year on campus called Revels.
Creating these iconic pieces was such a rare opportunity to give something back to the school that no other graduate has ever been able to give.
